The party

A club that came in costume

In late October 2025 a private club in Bethlehem threw its Halloween party, and the costumes came out in force: pinstripe suits and fedoras, a red velvet suit, a flame-red wig, a ghoul in a tall embroidered hat and, out on the lawn, a giant inflatable orange creature. His table stood on the brick terrace outside the clubhouse, with the golf course and the autumn trees behind it.

Later the party moved indoors, to a dining room laid with long tables in deep red cloth.

In the middle of it all

He set out the boards, the press and the boxes on a dark cloth, a patio heater beside him, and guests in costume came to the table and walked off with a cigar in hand. The table sat right in the thick of the party, guests crowding the terrace around it, with pumpkins and mums on bales of hay in the garden and the course beyond the railing.

The club

Asked back

In his words it was “a truly wonderful evening filled with great energy, good vibes, and amazing people.” The club asked him again: the following May he was back on the same brick terrace for its Kentucky Derby party.

The atmosphere was exceptional, and I’m grateful to have shared such a memorable night with everyone.
