Tee times and scorecards run themselves. What players remember is the hour after — and that is where Franklin Pichardo, master cigar roller, makes each of them a cigar by hand and gives the whole field a reason to stay.
On the course
Groups already stop. He gives them a reason to stay stopped.
At a sponsored hole they wait for the group ahead. At the turn they eat something standing up. Both of those are minutes the day already loses, and a rolling table is the only thing that turns them into the part somebody talks about on Monday.
After the last card
An hour after the scoring closes, the bar is still full.
This is where the sponsorship gets its money back, where the auction actually happens, and where the members decide whether to come again next year. It is also the hour with nothing scheduled in it.

The one thing in the goody bag that actually leaves the club.
He rolls the cigar in front of the player, and when you add custom bands as you book, the band that goes on it is yours — the name of the tournament, the year, or the sponsor who paid for the hole.
At a charity outing the band does a second job. Cigars banded with the tournament name get auctioned for the cause, and the winning bidders carry the day home in their pocket.

The shotgun start
Everybody is on the course at the same time and there is half an hour of standing around before it. The table gives the early arrivals somewhere to be that is not the parking lot.

One hole, or the turn
Groups already stop at a sponsored hole and already eat something standing up at the turn. Most clubs put him on one of the two and leave him there for the round.
- 03
The nineteenth
The cards are in and the scoring is done. This is the hour with nothing in the program, and it is the one the sponsorship is paying for.
What the club provides
All the club has to find is a table and some shade.
Six feet of table
Everything that goes on it travels with him, and it goes up in twenty minutes.
Shade, not sun
A tent, a halfway house or the clubhouse door. Tobacco does not like a bare fairway at noon.
One spot, or two
A hole for the round and the terrace after is the arrangement most clubs land on.
