Cocktail hour at a New Jersey wedding, with a cigar roller on the patio

The reception hall lit purple, and the rolling table set up inside it.

The wedding

A table below the terrace

On Saturday, October 19, 2024, he brought his table to a wedding in New Jersey. It stood outside, on a patio against a low stone wall below the hall’s terrace: up the steps behind him, guests in dark suits leaned on the railing with a drink in hand, and through the glass doors a chandelier lit the room where dinner would be served.

In his own clip from that night the garden around the table glows purple after dark, and the line he wrote across it says what the evening was: “Professionally the best part of a Cocktail Party!”

The work

Close enough to see the blade

From his chair the work is all within reach: the round board, a wrapper leaf cut to shape with the chaveta, the wooden molds stacked beside it and the press at the end of the table. That is what a guest sees on coming down the steps — a whole cigar made at arm’s length, from loose leaf to finished roll.

Afterward

“Highly satisfying”

The next day he wrote that he had “the pleasure of showcasing my cigar rolling expertise at a beautiful wedding in New Jersey, and the outcome was highly satisfying.”

For a couple planning their own, cocktail hour is the natural window: name it, and he will be rolling inside it, so that every guest who wants one leaves holding a cigar made in front of them.

Grateful thanks to the exceptional family!
